A Life-Changing Experience

Singing at Ely Cathedral as a young chorister is, quite simply, life-changing. Our choristers receive an unrivalled musical education, performing daily as professionals in the Cathedral as well as in venues all over the world. They learn skills of self-discipline and confidence, and gain an appreciation of hard work and high standards which lasts a lifetime: choristers go on to successful careers in all fields and develop a passion for music. It's a big commitment for them and their families, but they make life-long friendships and have a lot of fun.

First-Class Education with Rewards

There are up to 48 boy and girl choristers. All attend King's Ely (the vast majority are day pupils, though boarding options are offered too), where they receive an automatic 40% fee reduction, with further bursaries available according to family circumstances. After choristers leave the choir, there are opportunities for further fee reductions all the way through the Senior School until Year 13. 

Children usually join the choir in Year 3 or 4 and sing until the end of Year 8*. Usually boys and girls sing separately, but they often combine for special services and concerts.
