Can I buy an admission ticket when I arrive?
We request that all tickets must be purchased here, prior to your visit. If you are having problems buying tickets online please contact us on or call 01353 660349 (Please note this number is monitored on a part time basis and it may take up to 3 working days to respond).

What if I just want to come to the Cathedral to pray?
There is no charge for those wishing to come in for prayer or reflection. Please notify the welcome team on arrival.

What facilities are available?
We have limited toilet facilities available in the Cathedral including one accessible toilet. There are public toilets open on Palace Green (opposite the main entrance to the Cathedral), so it may be prudent to use those beforehand.

Do I have to wear a face mask?
Yes. In line with currently policy face coverings must be worn inside the building unless you have a medical condition which exempts you.

Do I have to pay Cathedral entry to visit the shop?
No. Access to the shop is free to all. We also have another gift shop, The Old Choir House, located on Ely High Street a short walk from the Cathedral.

Can I bring my dog into the Cathedral when I visit?
Ely is a dog friendly Cathedral and well-behaved dogs on a lead are very welcome.
Dogs (other than assistance dogs) are not permitted on ground floor tours, or at services, concerts or major events. Unfortunately assistance dogs are not permitted on Tower tours due to the difficulties of access.

Is there somewhere to get refreshments or book lunch?
The Almonry Restaurant, is part of the medieval precinct and located in the Cathedral grounds. The Almonry prides itself on serving locally sourced, home cooked lunches, cakes and afternoon tea. Please click here for further information.

Can I get a residents pass or renew my old one which has expired?
Anyone living in the CB6 or CB7 is entitled to a Resident's Pass allowing free access to Ely Cathedral. Please note that the Cathedral will honour all Resident Passes that have expired until a new Pass can be issued.

Can I bring a group?
Groups are welcome at Ely Cathedral Mondays - Saturdays. If you are a group of 15 or more people you will need to book directly and in advance. We regret we are unable to accommodate group visits on Sundays. Please visit the Groups pages for further information. Is there somewhere to leave luggage?
For security reasons there are no facilities for visitors to leave bags or luggage at Ely Cathedral. Please ensure you keep any bags with you at all times)

Is photography permitted?
Still photography is free of charge. Photography and video recording must not be used in the Cathedral during any service. Please respect the space and privacy of others when taking photographs inside the cathedral.

Can I bring food and drink into the Cathedral?
We ask that visitors do not bring food or drink into the Cathedral, with the exception of bottled water.
