Visitor Opening Times

Monday–Saturday 9.30am - 4pm
Sunday 12 noon - 3pm

Ely Cathedral is a busy working Cathedral and there are occasions we need to restrict visitor access or close our doors to visitors for an event, service, essential maintenance etc. We appreciate people may travel some distance to visit, so we give as much notice as possible here. However some events or services need to take place with very little notice, so please check back here for any changes before you visit.

Changes to Visitor Opening

March

Monday 16 March
10am – 11.30am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s event
12 noon – 12.30pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to filming.
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra at Ely Cathedral.  Some visitor access and views will be restricted.

Tuesday 17 March
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert. All visitors are welcome to attend the concert.

Wednesday 18 March
1.15pm – 3pm: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a funeral.
2.45pm – 4.30pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a private event.

Thursday 19 March
10am – 10.30am: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a service.
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s event.
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert. All visitors are welcome to attend the concert.

Friday 20 March
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for A Night At the Opera by Candlelight.  

Saturday 21 March
9.15am – 12 noon: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a confirmation service. 
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for a school concert.  Some visitor access and views will be limited.

Wednesday 25 March
11.45am – 12.45pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a service of Holy Communion. Visitors are welcome to join the service.

Thursday 26 March
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert. All visitors are welcome to attend the concert.

Friday 27 March
Open to visitors 9.30am – 2.15pm (last entry 1.15pm) due to a school service.
9.30am – 12 noon: Visitor access and views in the Octagon area will be limited due to school rehearsals.

Saturday 28 March
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Haydn The Creation. Some visitor access and views will be limited.

Monday 30 March
10am – 11.30am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s event.

April

Thursday 2 April
Open to visitors 12.15pm – 4.30pm, due to a Diocesan service at 10.30am.
The Stained Glass Museum opens at 10am.

Friday 3 April – Good Friday
Today is one of the most solemn days in the Christian Church. 
All are welcome to join our services at 12 noon – 3pm and 5.30pm – 6.30pm. 
No visitor tickets or tours are available.

Sunday 5 April – Easter Day
Open for visits 12.15pm – 3pm.
No visitor tickets or tours today - donations most welcome.

Wednesday 8 April
10am – 4pm: Organ tuning.  Please note this involves loud, discordant noise.

Thursday 9 April
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert. All visitors are welcome to attend the concert.

Friday 10 April
12 noon – 1.30pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a service.

Saturday 11 April
1pm – 4pm: The Lady Chapel will be busier than usual due to rehearsals for North Sea Voices. Some visitor access and views will be restricted.

Monday 13 April
9.45am – 11.30am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s event.
3pm – 4pm: The Presbytery will be busier than usual with a wedding rehearsal. Some visitor access and views may be restricted.

Thursday 16 April
10am – 10.30am: No visitor entry to the Presbytery due to a service.
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor entry to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert. Visitors are welcome to attend the concert.

Friday 17 April
9.15am – 11am: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a wedding. 
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for a school concert. Some visitor access and views will be limited.

Monday 20 April
Open to visitors from 9.45am, due to a school service.

Thursday 23 April
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert. Visitors are welcome to attend the concert.

Friday 24 April
1pm – 4pm: The Cathedral will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Pop Goes Classical. Some visitor access and views in the Octagon area will be restricted.

Sunday 26 April
12 noon – 3.30pm: No visitor entry to the Lady Chapel due to a private event.

Monday 27 April
9.45am – 11.30am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s event.

Thursday 30 April
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.
12.45pm – 2.30pm: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a wedding.
