Monday–Saturday 9.30am - 4pm
Sunday 12 noon - 3pm

Ely Cathedral is a very busy working Cathedral and there are occasions we need to restrict visitor access or close our doors to visitors for an event, service, essential maintenance etc. We appreciate that people may travel some distance to visit, so we try and give as much notice as possible here. However some events or services need to take place with very little notice, so please check back here for any changes before you visit.

Changes to Visitor Opening

January

Monday 19 January – Friday 23 January
The Stained Glass Museum is closed all week due to conservation work.  The Cathedral is open as usual.

Saturday 24 January
12 noon – 4pm: The Cathedral will be much busier than usual with rehearsals for Britten War Requiem.  Some visitor access and views will be limited.

Monday 26 January
1.45pm – 3.30pm: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a memorial service.
3.30pm – 5pm: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a private event.

Thursday 29 January
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.

Friday 30 January
1pm – 4pm: The Cathedral will be busier than usual with rehearsals for A Tribute to Hans Zimmer.

February

Monday 2 February
9.30am – 4pm: The Cathedral will be busier than usual with set up for Space by Luxmuralis.
10am – 11.30am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s event.

Wednesday 4 February
Open to visitors 9.30am – 4pm (last entry 3pm) due to Space by Luxmularis.
10am – 4pm: Organ tuning.  Please note this involves very loud, repetitive and discordant noise.

Thursday 5 February
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.

Friday 6 February
Open to visitors 9.30am – 4pm (last entry 3pm) due to Space by Luxmuralis

Saturday 7 February 
Open to visitors 9.30am – 4pm (last entry 3pm) due to Space by Luxmuralis.

Thursday 12 February
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.
1pm – 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert.  All visitors are welcome to attend the concert.
2pm – 4pm: The Cathedral will be busier than usual with rehearsals for a school concert.

Saturday 14 February
1pm – 4pm: The Cathedral will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Valentine’s Night at the Opera.  

Monday 16 February – Saturday 21 February
All day: Visitor access to the Lady Chapel will be limited due to an event.

Wednesday 18 February
11.45am – 12.45pm: No visitor access to the East End and Presbytery due to a service.

Thursday 19 February
10am – 10.30am: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a service.
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s event.
1pm – 4pm: The Cathedral will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Collabro – The Harmonies Tour.

Sunday 22 February
12 noon – 1pm: No visitor access to the South Transept due to a community meeting.

Thursday 26 February
10.15am – 11.15am: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to a children’s service.
12 noon – 4pm: The Cathedral will be busier than usual with set up for a Silent Disco.
