FAQs

Can I buy an admission ticket when I arrive?
Tickets are available to purchase on arrival but we advise booking tickets in advance, particularly for our guided tours. If you have problems buying tickets online please contact us: box.office@elycathedral.org or call 01353 660349 (Please note this number is monitored on a part time basis Monday - Friday only).

What if I just want to come to the Cathedral to pray?
There is no charge for those wishing to come in for prayer or reflection. Please notify the welcome team on arrival.

What facilities are available?
We have limited toilet facilities available in the Cathedral including one accessible toilet. There are public toilets on Palace Green (opposite the main entrance to the Cathedral).

Is there somewhere I can store luggage?
For security reasons, we ask visitors to keep all belongings and luggage with them at all times. The only exception is those joining tower tours, when small bags can be stored for the duration of the tour only.

Do I have to pay Cathedral entry to visit the shop?
No. Access to the shop is free to all. We also have an online shop.

Can I bring my dog into the Cathedral when I visit?
Ely is a dog friendly Cathedral and well-behaved dogs on a lead are very welcome. Dogs, with the exception of assistance dogs, are not permitted on ground floor tours, at concerts or events. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate assistance dogs on Tower Tours due to the difficulties of access.

Can I bring my dog to a Service at Ely Cathedral?
Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome at Cathedral services. Please be respectful of other worshippers and ensure that dogs are kept away from any area set aside for children. We appreciate animals can be unpredictable however, if your dog creates a disturbance, a verger or Cathedral steward may be required to ask you to remove your dog until the service has finished.

Is there somewhere to get refreshments or book lunch?
The Almonry Restaurant is part of the medieval precinct and located in the Cathedral grounds. The Almonry prides itself on serving locally sourced, home cooked lunches, cakes and afternoon tea.
Dogs are welcome in the Almonry gardens and the Tea Room. Other areas of the restaurant are not accessible to dogs.

Photography
Photography for personal use is permitted in the Cathedral and its grounds. Please respect the privacy other visitors, including Cathedral volunteers and members of staff when taking photographs. We request that tripods are not used in the building.

What else is there to do at Ely Cathedral?
There is plenty do at Ely Cathedral including climbing towers, guided tours, shopping, or relaxing in the Cathedral's beautiful grounds. Please visit our Must See and Do page.

Can I bring a group?
