Monday - Saturday: 9.30am - 4.30pm

Sunday: Noon - 3pm

Changes to Visitor Opening Hours

Very occasionally we need to close our doors to visitors for a private service, event, filming or maintenance; or restrict access to certain parts of the Cathedral. We are aware people travel long distances to visit Ely Cathedral so we try to minimise periods of closure as much as possible.

As soon as we know about a closure the information will be posted below. Please check this page for any last minute changes prior to your visit as some events may have to be arranged at short notice.

Saturday 12 October

Visitor entry is 9.30am-3.30pm. All are welcome to join the Sung Evening Service at 4pm.

Wednesday 16 October
1pm - 4pm
: The Octagon area will be busier than usual due to rehearsals for Bruckner and Gesualdo.

Thursday 17 October
1pm - 2pm: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert by Ely Chamber Ensemble. Visitors are very welcome to attend the concert.

Saturday 19 October
1pm - 4pm
: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Sing! Choirs - Celebrating Singing.

Monday 21 October
10am - 4pm
: Organ tuning. Please note this involves loud and repetitive sound.

Thursday 24 October
1pm - 4pm
: The Octagon area will be busier than usual due to rehearsals for A Tribute to Hans Zimmer.

Friday 25 October
10.15am-12 noon:
No visitor access to the East End & Presbytery due to a memorial service.
1pm – 4pm: The Octagon area will be busier than usual due to rehearsals for A Tribute to Hans Zimmer.

: The Octagon area will be busier than usual due to rehearsals for A Tribute to Hans Zimmer.

Thursday 31 October
1pm - 2pm
: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a lunchtime concert by Neo Hung. Visitors are very welcome to attend the concert.

November

Saturday 2 November
1pm – 4pm
: Rehearsals for Music of Cold Play by Candlelight. Sound checks and music will be very loud and visitor access and views may be limited.

Sunday 3 November

Visitor access is 12 noon – 2pm
. Access after 2pm will be limited due to choir rehearsals.

Tuesday 5 November

10am – 3pm
: The Cathedral will be very busy with students attending a Schools’ Careers Fair. Visitor views and access will be very limited. No tours are available and no visitor tickets are required today.

Thursday 7 November

1pm – 2pm
: No visitor access to the Presbytery due to a a lunchtime concert by Ely Music Collective. Visitors are very welcome to attend the concert.

Friday 8 November

1pm -4pm
: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Russell Watson

Saturday 9 November

Visitor access is 10am – 2pm
(last entry 1pm), due to a service at 3pm.

Monday 11 November

Visitor access is 11.30am – 4pm
, due to a school’s Service of Remembrance at 11am.

Thursday 14 November

10am – 4pm
: Organ tuning. Please note this involves loud and repetitive sound.

Friday 15 November

Visitor access is 10am – 2.45pm
(last entry 1.45pm) due to a service at 4.30pm.
1pm – 4pm
: No visitor access to the Lady Chapel due to set up for an evening event.

Wednesday 20 November

No visitor access today due to set up for Christmas Gift and Food Fair.
The Cathedral shop is closed today. The Stained Glass Museum is open as usual 10am – 4pm (last entry 3.30pm).

Thursday 21 November – Saturday 23 November

Access to the cathedral on these days is by ticket for Christmas Gift and Food Fair only. The Cathedral will be much busier than usual, and no tours are available. Tickets for the Fair can be purchased in advance here.

Tuesday 26 November

1pm – 4pm
: The Octagon area will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Dreamcoat Stars. Sound checks may be loud, and some visitor views will be limited.

Friday 29 November

1pm – 4pm
: The Octagon and Nave will be busier than usual with rehearsals for Gabrieli Roar Christmas.
