Visitor Opening Hours

Monday - Saturday: 10:00am - 4:00pm

Sunday: 12:30pm - 3:30pm (last entry 3:00pm)

Changes to Visitor Opening Hours
Very occasionally we may need to close our doors to visitors for a service, event, filming or maintenance; or restrict visitors from certain parts of the Cathedral. We are aware that people travel long distances to visit Ely Cathedral so we try to minimise periods of closure as much as possible.

As soon as we know about a closure the information will be posted below. Please remember to check this page for any last minute changes prior to your visit as some events may have to be arranged at short notice.

Saturday 23 October
From 1.30pm: The Presbytery will be closed.

Thursday 28 October
10am - 4pm: Organ tuning. Please note that organ tuning involves loud and repetitive noise.
11.45am - 12.45pm: The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a service of Holy Communion. All are welcome to join the service.

Saturday 30 October
12 noon - 4pm: There may be some restrictions to visitor access in the Octagon due to concert rehearsals.

Wednesday 3 November
All day: the Lady Chapel will be closed to visitors due to set up for an event.

Thursday 4 November
11.50am – 12.45pm: The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a service of Holy Communion. All are welcome to join the service.

Friday 5 November

10am – 1.30pm: The Cathedral will be closed to visitors for a funeral.
Visitor access today will be from 1.30pm - 4pm only.

Please note: the Stained Glass Museum will be open as usual from 10am - 3.30pm.

Saturday 6 November
1pm – 4pm: There will be some restrictions to visitor access in the Octagon area due to concert rehearsals.

Thursday 11 November

10am – 11.30am: The Cathedral will be closed to visitors for a service of Remembrance.
11.50am – 12.45pm: The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a service of Holy Communion. All are welcome to join the service.

Friday 12 November
All day: Visitor access to the Lady Chapel will be restricted due to a school event.

Saturday 13 November
12 noon – 4pm: There will be some restrictions to visitor access in the Octagon area due to concert rehearsals.

Monday 15 November
All day: There will be some restrictions to visitor access throughout the cathedral due to set up for the Christmas Fair.

Tuesday 16 November
All day: There will be some restrictions to visitor access throughout the cathedral due to set up for the Christmas Fair.

Wednesday 17 November
All day: The Cathedral will be closed to visitors for final set up for the Christmas Fair.
Please note: The Stained Glass Museum will remain open as usual.


Thursday 18 November – Saturday 20 November
Cathedral Gift and Food Fair - Please note that access to the cathedral on these days is by ticket for the Christmas Fair only. The Cathedral will be much busier than usual, and no guided tours or tower towers are available. Tickets for the Fair can be purchased in advance here

Tuesday 23 November
All day: There will be some restrictions to visitor access in the Nave and Octagon due to concert set up and rehearsals.

Wednesday 24 November
10am – 4pm: Organ tuning. Please note that organ tuning involves loud and repetitive noise.

Thursday 25 November
10.30am – 11am: The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a service.
11.50am – 12.45pm: The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a service of Holy Communion. All are welcome to join the service.

Friday 26 November
3pm- 4pm: The Cathedral will be closed to visitors due to rehearsals and set up for a service. Please note: last visitor entry will be at 2pm. The Stained Glass Museum will remain open as usual until 3.30pm.

Sunday 28 November
2pm – 3.30pm: There will be some restrictions to visitor access due to rehearsals for a service.

Monday 29 November
10am – 4pm: There may be some restrictions to visitor access in the South Transept due to preparations to decorate the Christmas tree.

Tuesday 30 November
2.30pm – 3.30pm: Bishop West’s Chapel will be closed to visitors for a service.
