Visitor Opening Hours

Monday - Saturday: 10:00am - 4:00pm

Sunday: 12:30pm - 3:30pm (last entry 3:00pm)

Changes to Visitor Opening Hours
Very occasionally we need to close our doors to visitors for a service, event, filming or maintenance; or restrict access to certain parts of the Cathedral. We are aware people travel long distances to visit Ely Cathedral so we try to minimise periods of closure as much as possible.

As soon as we know about a closure the information will be posted below. Please remember to check this page for any last minute changes prior to your visit as some events may have to be arranged at short notice.

Friday 7 October
1.15pm – 3pm: The Presbytery and East End will be closed to visitors for a funeral.
2.30pm – 4pm: The Lady Chapel will be closed to visitors for a private function.

Saturday 8 October
The Cathedral will be much busier than usual with special Harvest Festival displays and activities taking place.

Wednesday 12 October
10am – 4pm
: Organ tuning. Please note that organ tuning involves loud and repetitive noise.

Thursday 13 October
1pm – 2pm:
The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a lunchtime concert. All are welcome to join the concert.

Saturday 15 October
10am – 11.30am
: The East End and Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a service.
1.15pm – 3pm
: The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a baptism.

Sunday 16 October
2.30pm – 4pm:
The Cathedral will be closed to visitors for a service. Last visitor entry will be at 2pm.

* Monday 17 October – Saturday 22 October *
The Cathedral will be closed to visitors between Monday 17 - Saturday 22 October inclusive.

Wednesday 26 October
The Cathedral will be busier than usual due to concert set up and rehearsals. Please note that some views may be restricted.

Thursday 27 October
The Cathedral will be busier than usual due to concert set up and rehearsals. Please note that some views may be restricted.
1pm – 2pm:
The Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a lunchtime concert. All are welcome to join the concert.

Saturday 29 October
1.15pm – 3pm:
The East End and Presbytery will be closed to visitors for a wedding.

Saturday 5 November
9am – 5pm
: The Lady Chapel will be closed to visitors as it will be in use as a vaccination centre.

Sunday 6 November
12 noon – 2pm
: The Lady Chapel will be closed to visitors for a community lunch.

Tuesday 8 November
The Cathedral will be much busier than usual due to a local Schools’ Careers Fair. Views and access will be obstructed in places. Tower tours are still available to book here and the Stained Glass Museum will be open as usual.

Wednesday 9 November
10am – 4pm
: Organ tuning. Please note that organ tuning involves loud and repetitive noise.

Friday 11 November
10am – 11.15am
: The Cathedral will be closed to visitors for a Service of Remembrance. All are welcome to join the service.
Please note: The Stained Glass Museum will be open as usual

Monday 14 & Tuesday 15 November
All day
: The Cathedral will be busier than usual due to set up for the Christmas Gift and Food Fair. The only tours available will be Octagon tower tours.

Wednesday 16 November
All day
: The Cathedral and Cathedral shop will be closed to visitors for final set up for the Christmas Fair.
Please note: The Stained Glass Museum will be open as usual.

Thursday 17 November – Saturday 19 November
Cathedral Gift and Food Fair - Please note that access to the cathedral on these days is by ticket for the Christmas Fair only. The Cathedral will be much busier than usual, and no guided tours or tower towers are available. Tickets for the Fair can be purchased in advance here.

Tuesday 22 November
1pm – 4pm
: The Cathedral will be busier than usual due to concert set up and rehearsals. Please note that some views may be restricted.

Wednesday 30 November
10am – 11am
: The Presbytery will be closed for an Education Conference Service.
