CATHEDRAL CLOSURES

VERY OCCASIONALLY ELY CATHEDRAL MAY NEED TO CLOSE ITS DOORS TO VISITORS FOR A SERVICE, EVENT, FILMING OR MAINTENANCE OR RESTRICT VISITORS FROM CERTAIN PARTS OF THE CATHEDRAL

 

2017

August 2017 - Spring 2018

There is a major repair and conservation project taking place on the roof of the South Nave Aisle of the Cathedral. At times, some areas of the nave are cordoned off to ensure visitor safety.

Monday 9 October

10.30am - Midday: The Lady Chapel only will be closed to visitors due to a service taking place.

Tuesday 10 October

The Cathedral will welcome local school pupils for an all-day Careers Fair. The Cathedral will remain open to visitors. Tours and Tower tours will still be available and the Stained Glass Museum will remain open.

Saturday 14 October

12.15 - 1.15pm: The Lady Chapel only will be closed to visitors due to the Walsingham Cell Mass. Everyone is welcome to join the service.

Friday 20 October

Organ tuning. The Cathedral remains open to visitors.

Friday 27 October

The Lady Chapel only will be closed for most of the day to visitors due to the National Cathedral Friends' Conference taking place.

Wednesday 1 November

The Cathedral will welcome a large group of school children. Their visit will include a eucharist under the Octagon at 1.45pm. The Cathedral remains open to visitors.

Thursday 16 November

Preparations for the Christmas Gift and Food Fair will take place throughout the day. The Cathedral remains fully open to visitors, with tours and tower tours available.

Friday 17 and Saturday 18 November

The cathedral will hold its annual Christmas Gift and Food Fair. Please be aware that the cathedral will be particularly busy on these days. West Tower tours only will still be available.

Monday 20 November

Organ tuning. The Cathedral will remain fully open to visitors.

2018

Monday 29 January - Friday 23 February

The Stained Glass Museum only will be closed to the public due to restoration work to the south nave aisle taking place.

We know that people travel long distances to visit Ely Cathedral so we try to minimise periods of closure as much as possible. As soon as we know about a closure the information will be posted here. Please remember to check this page for any last minute changes prior to your visit as some events may have to be arranged at short notice.
