Terms and Conditions

  • Visitor & Tour Tickets
    Tickets can only be exchanged or refunded at the discretion of the Visitor Experience Manager.
    Lost or stolen tickets cannot be replaced or money refunded.
    Tickets are non-transferable.
    All tours are subject to guide availability and also to events and services taking place in the Cathedral. To avoid disappointment please check for any last minute changes to our opening hours before your visit.
  • Tower Tour Tickets & West Tower Climb Tickets
    Tower tour/West tower climb times may vary or be cancelled at short notice due to guide availability, adverse weather conditions or a major event/service within the Cathedral.
    A minimum of 2 visitors is needed for a tour/climb to go ahead.
  • On booking a Tower Tour or West Tower Climb, visitors are required to read and agree to the following Terms & Conditions.
  • For your safety and enjoyment, visitors must:
    Be aged 10 or over (10-17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult)
    Be reasonably fit, fully mobile and in good general health.
    Be capable of climbing stairs without walking sticks/aids.
    Wear suitable footwear.
    Be comfortable with heights and small spaces.
    Happy to leave personal belongings such as bags (handbags, rucksacks, luggage etc) where requested by the guide, as these cannot be taken up the tower.
    Stay with the group at all times.
    Follow the group leader's instructions at all times.
  • Octagon Tower
    Please note the tour involves:
    170 spiral stone steps, in 4 stages.
    Some narrow, enclosed staircases, with some steep/uneven stairs.
    Low and narrow doorways - one is just 18.5"/47cm wide.
    Access to open roofs with external views (NB access to top level is weather-dependent).
    Duration of up to 1 hour.
  • West Tower Tour/West Tower Climb
    Please note these involve:
    288 spiral steps inside the stone tower.
    Some steep and uneven stairs.
    Access to the open top of the tower 215 ft/66m high.
    Passing near radio transmitters - their frequency may adversely affect heart pacemakers.
    Duration of up to 1 hour (Tower Tour); Duration of up to 40 minutes (West Tower Climb)

Important Information: A Cathedral Guide has the right to refuse to take a person on a Tower Tour if they feel it is detrimental to the health and safety of themselves and other visitors.

We regret that dogs, including assistance dogs, cannot be accommodated on Tower Tours or the West Tower Climb.
