Summer Activities

We are so excited to be able to welcome families back into the Cathedral and have a great programme of activities planned for you over the summer.

Most activities will require pre-booking so that we can ensure social distancing and other guidelines are managed safely. Book at the links below.

1 & 3 June - Midsummer Magic - 1 June, 10am & 11.30am. 3 June, 10am
Join Millicent Green, medieval alewife and story teller, for Midsummer stories, crafts and festivities. Millicent will tell children all about how Midsummer was celebrated in the middle ages, from "bone fires" to burning wheels as well as how to protect themselves from the dragons and tiddy people who were abroad on Midsummers Eve. After hearing these tales of festivity and magic, children will be able to make their own dragons and fairy stones.
Tickets: £5 including all craft materials. Booking is essential and places are limited to ensure social distancing. Ideal for children aged 5+

26 June - Children and Families Open Day - POSTPONED
A fun packed day for you to explore all that the Cathedral has to offer from our toddler groups to Forest Church and from our Hands on History sessions to our Cathedral safaris.

31 July - Lego Creatures - 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm
Join expert builders Catherine Weightman and Mike Addis to create your own endangered Lego animal. You'll build a Lego animal and place them on the giant map to show where in the world you would find them. Find out about the threats your creature faces and the environment it lives in and take away a goody bag and a photo of you and your build. Ideal for children 6+
Tickets: £5 per builder.

4 August - Fantastical Beasts - 10.30am, 1.30pm
Join one of our guides on a trail around the Cathedral to find our fantastical beasts. Then, join Lady Alianor to discover more about Knights, Chivalry and to create your own Coat of Arms. Ideal for children aged 6-12.

11 August - Medieval Midsummer - 10.30am, 1.30pm
Join one of our guides on a trail around the Cathedral to explore our Green Men. Afterwards, you'll join Millicent Greene at the "Merry Monk" to find out more about how medieval people marked Midsummer, play games, jump the "fire" and create your own "burning" wheel. Ideal for children aged 6-12.
Tickets: £5 per child.

18 August - Living and Working in the Monastery - 10.30am, 1.30pm
Join a host of medieval characters as you explore the monastic history of the Cathedral.
