Stephen Brooker

Stephen Brooker was appointed Chair of the Friends' Council at the close of the AGM in autumn 2026 after 5 years as a member of Council.

Stephen is a Licensed Lay Minister who came to the Diocese of Ely in 1987, when he and his family moved to the village of Bassingbourn. Stephen and his wife, Susan, joined the Friends as Life Members at that time. After moving to Ely in 2020, both became heavily involved in cathedral life.

Stephen's professional life before retirement included spells as Finance Director of the British Red Cross, Bursar of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Chair of the Law Society Audit Committee, membership of the House of Commons Audit Committee and 11 years as a Non-Executive Director of East and North Herts NHS Hospital Trust. He has also served as a trustee of a number of charities, active across a wide range of charitable activities.
