Recording

The generous acoustics of Ely Cathedral create a perfect recording location.

John Rutter, Gabrieli Consort, Britten Sinfonia, London Symphony Orchestra, Clare College Choir, Trinity College Choir, Polyphony and the award winning band alt-J are just a few of the musicians and artists who have used these facilities for recording purposes.

Highly praised and world renown recordings include Mahler, Symphony No. 2 in C Minor 'Resurrection' (Sony Classical) and Bruckner: Mass & Motets (Hyperion) which was awarded Classical CD of the year (2007).

The Lady Chapel, in particular, is famous for its special acoustic properties and can be closed off from the main body of the Cathedral offering both audio and visual privacy. This venue is a firm favourite of Ely Cathedral Music patron, John Rutter, who has used the Lady Chapel for a number of recordings including Lighten Our Darkness (Collegium Records).
