Lesley Bishop
I was born in Luton, the middle on of three to very caring parents who believed that it was important to help others, so I grew up with that ethos.
I am a methodist and am married to Chris, a methodist minister and we have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. We have lived in various parts of the country, and for a month with a family in Gambia, when Chris had a sabbatical.
In 1970 I qualified as a solicitor. I have been employed and an employer and have worked at several firms. Hopefully, my training has given me the ability to analyse situations. Through my work and the church I have met people from all walks of life.
After being a brownie and guide, I became a Tawny Owl. In Downham Market, I helped teach swimming at the local club. Singing was an important part of my life. I was a member of Ely Choral Society for 20 years, and secretary for 11 of those. I served as a committee member and for many years chairman of the Ely branch of NSPCC and for a short time went into schools taking part in the ‘Stay Safe’ programme which that charity ran.
On retiring I joined the Ely branch of u3a, serving on the committee, as vice chairman, chairman from 2010 to 2013 and doing some area work. Until recently I ran a garden group for the u3a with a friend.
I love being part of Ely cathedral and hope that I can be of help to the The Friends’ Council.
