Claire Stonehouse
My professional background is that I worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS for 35 years, specialising in children with varied communication disorders. In addition to delivering therapy, my role always involved being a member of a team and required the transferrable skills of managing, supporting and training, plus liaising effectively with a range of people. After retiring I have found such skills helpful in several ongoing volunteer roles. These include at E.A.C.H, helping with sibling and family events, and being a Visitor Host at the National Trust.
Since relocating to Ely in 2022, I joined the Welcome Team. This has extended my knowledge of the Cathedral and I enjoy the opportunities to learn more all the time! I’d also joined The Friends and then went on the Social Committee. In 2025 I became a Trustee on the Council of The Friends. I wanted to support its aims and gain more insight into how The Friends operates and its place within the workings of the Cathedral which is all interesting and fascinating. These roles and commitments to the Cathedral, which I love, continue to be my way of contributing to the life and work of this beautiful and special place and its community.
