Canon Sir Jonathan Jones KCB KC (Hon)
Jonathan was a government lawyer for over 30 years, holding senior posts in the Treasury, Home Office and Attorney General’s Office, latterly (2016-2020) serving as Treasury Solicitor and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department. He was subsequently (2021-2026) a senior consultant at the law firm Linklaters LLP.
Jonathan is also a visiting professor at Durham Law School, a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Government, an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law, and a Master of the Bench of the Middle Temple. He was appointed honorary Queen’s Counsel (now KC) in 2019 and made Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in 2020.
Jonathan has been a member of the Cathedral congregation since the 1990s and on occasion sings with the choir as a deputy lay clerk.
