Chapter are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Jonathan Bell as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Ely Cathedral. In line with the recent changes to the Cathedral Measure, this is a new title for the role of Cathedral Administrator, a post which became vacant at the end of June on the retirement of Stephen Bourne.

Jonathan brings a wealth of business experience following an initial career with KPMG and Barclays PLC. He joins us from the New Economics Foundation, a charitable think tank, where he has been the director of finance and operations. Prior to this, Jonathan has worked within the third sector, focusing on charity finances, for over ten years. He has held similar roles in charities such as New Philanthropy Capital, Praxis Community Projects and Prostate Cancer UK.

As well as being a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, he is Treasurer of Kidscape, a high profile national charity which tackles bullying and until December 2019 was for many years a trustee of the National AIDS Trust, where he chaired the finance committee.

Jonathan was baptised and confirmed in the Church of England and was previously involved in parish and deanery life in Westminster. He is an active Quaker and is treasurer and a trustee of Norfolk and Waveney Area Quaker Meeting.

Jonathan will be taking up his post at Ely in October. We wish him every success in the role and we are all looking forward to welcoming him into the Cathedral community.
