Ely Cathedral will mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One with silence, prayer and music throughout the evening of Monday 4 August.

Evensong at 5.30pm sung by St. Andrew's Cathedral Choir, Aberdeen will include the anthem 'So They Gave Their bodies' composed by Peter Aston to reflect the act of commemoration and remembrance.

Following Evensong at 6.30pm there will be a candle-lit vigil of prayer and solemn reflection in the Lady Chapel, which precedes a special service of Compline at 9.00pm.

The service is one of a number of events being announced by the Government to mark the centenary of the Great War.
