WOOD GREEN, THE ANIMALS CHARITY AND ELY CATHEDRAL ARE SADDENED TO ANNOUNCE THE CANCELATION OF THIS YEAR'S ELY PET SERVICE IN MAY

Published: 02 Apr 2015

For the past 28 years Wood Green have hosted the annual animal pet service at Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire which has always been well attended by owners and pets alike.

Animal welfare has always been at the forefront of Wood Green's mission statement and after an extensive review, this year a decision was made to only invite dogs to attend with their owners in order to avoid unnecessary stress caused by multiple species occupying the same space. After much discussion unfortunately an agreement by both parties could not be agreed. However, the two will be looking for future opportunities to come together and complement each other's work.

Alan Hargrave, Canon Missioner at the Cathedral, has been taking the Pet Service for over 10 years and is saddened by this outcome. "We understand that many people will be upset by Wood Green's decision not to continue with an 'all animal service'. We are currently considering other options to celebrate the animals which bring such blessing to so many people's lives".

Clive Byles CEO of Wood Green added "We would like to apologise to our loyal supporters and will endeavour to find a way to provide a similar service, in the best interest of animal welfare, to celebrate the lives of our beloved pets".
