ELY CATHEDRAL SCIENCE FESTIVAL - 'FROM DINOSAURS TO DNA'

DINOSAURS, ROCKET SHOWS AND EXPLOSIVE DISPLAYS AS ELY CATHEDRAL WELCOMES THE WORLD OF SCIENCE AND SCIENTISTS AND EVEN HAS ROOM TO EXHIBIT THE WORKS OF CHARLES DARWIN AND A PREHISTORIC PLIOSAUR.

An event to highlight how the Church and Science are not only reconciling their differences but working in partnership, is taking place at Ely Cathedral later this month. Ely Cathedral's first ever Science Festival is a month long event of interactive fun and discovery exploring science and the natural world through art, music, exhibitions and lectures.

This extraordinary event hopes to educate and enlighten people of all ages, of all faiths and none. The programme includes science shows, live experiments, prehistoric creatures, the writings of Charles Darwin, ethical debates and fascinating talks by leading experts on numerous topics from the use of DNA, health, polar expeditions, religion and astronomy. Other Highlights include a dinosaur dig with life size T REX, a pop up planetarium with a 3D trip to the international space station, a 20m long model of a DNA helix suspended from the Octagon, an explosive science show and a Sci-Fi Prom featuring music from favourite composers and popular film scores.

Canon Vicky Johnson, who trained as a scientist, said 'Ely Cathedral is a miracle of medieval engineering, and was built by people wanting to make sense of the world around them and understand it more fully. Today, Cambridgeshire is at the heart of the science and technology industries many members of our congregation are scientists. In the 21st century we hope Ely can be a cathedral for science and for scientists and the festival aims to help everyone explore the wonders of science and ask questions about the world we live in.'

'From Dinosaurs to DNA' takes place between 20 May - 18 June 2017. Book online from tickets.elycathedral.org or contact the Cathedral Box Office on 01353 660349.
