Examples of support by trusts & foundations

Interpreting Ely Cathedral for all

Expertly crafted digital multimedia guides are now available thanks to generous grants from the Wolfson Foundation, the Church Commissioners Cathedral Sustainability Fund, and a private charitable trust.

The digital guides offer a glimpse behind the scenes, including the worship and work that is needed to run and maintain the building. They also tell the stories and reveal details that visitors might otherwise miss, such as the story of St Etheldreda, the Saxon Queen who founded the original monastery. An Audio Descriptive version, British Sign Language version, translations in six different languages, and a children’s tour option, make the Cathedral even more accessible.

We need your help to continue telling the stories behind Ely Cathedral and ensuring everyone can access and enjoy this incredible building.

The gift of music

You can help kindle a child’s love of choral music by sponsoring a choristership, just like the Friends of Cathedral Music Choristership here at Ely Cathedral.

There has been a Cathedral Choir at Ely for hundreds of years, and the tradition of daily choral music remains at the heart of the Cathedral’s work. Today the Cathedral Choir consists of boy and girl choristers, aged between 7 and 16 years, and adult professional singers. Your trust could help choristers receive an unrivalled musical education, as well as developing life skills such as confidence.

Being a part of the choir has opened many opportunities for me. In my time so far, I have been lucky enough to sing some amazing music in a fantastic environment. The Cathedral is a breath-taking building, and I am truly honoured to be able to sing a variety of music every week inside it. As choristers, we have a chance to bring joy to the wider community of the Cathedral especially now many services are live streamed. — Emma
