Special Interest Tour - In Search of Ely Cathedral's Women

18 September 2024, 11:30

Tickets

Wednesday 3 April & Wednesday 18 September, 11.30am

At first glance, there seems to be very little evidence in the cathedral of the countless women who have passed through its doors over the centuries. This new tour will reveal traces of just some of these women, telling their stories and how they reflect the times in which they lived.

Among others, find out about the Anglo-Saxon queen behind the fame of Ely Abbey and St Etheldreda, and the mother of ten who died aged 31 and is buried with 3 of her children. Discover the face of a young wife in the altar screen paid for by her grieving husband, and the mark of a talented young female artist in her stained glass window.

What's included:

Lunch at the Almonry Restaurant. (This is a 2-course lunch from the daily menu, either a soup starter and main course, or a main course and dessert. The daily menu can be found here. Please note this does not include the specials menu)
