Octagon Tower Tours
Marvel at the Octagon tower and lantern. Acknowledged as one of the wonders of medieval engineering, this incredible structure, suspended high over the centre of the Cathedral, was completed in 1342 and is considered the jewel in the Cathedral crown.
The fascinating tour over 170 steps with an experienced guide, takes you behind the scenes of the lantern, discovers its fascinating history and opens up the angel doors so you can peer down into the Cathedral.
The brave can then go up onto the roof of the tower to see stunning views over Ely and the surrounding countryside (weather permitting).
This unique experience takes approximately 1 hour and requires a certain level of fitness and mobility.
Adults will need a standard visitor ticket in order to purchase an Octagon Tower Tour.
Days and Times: Monday - Saturday, 10.30am, 11.45am, 1.30pm & 2.45pm
Tickets: £10 for adults (in addition to your visitor ticket) and £8.50 for children aged 10 or over. (We cannot accept children under 10 on this tour).
Tour groups remain small with between 2 and 10 people taking part and all adhering to the Cathedral's guidelines on social distancing. Wearing a mask is mandatory.
(Tickets must be pre-booked on line an hour before your visit and all participants must have read the Terms and Conditions prior to arrival. This tour may not be suitable for everyone).
Please meet your guide in the North Transept of the Cathedral, 5 minutes before your tour is due to start, as the tour starts promptly. Our guide will be wearing a face mask.
