Ely Cathedral

A note from the Dean

It is a huge privilege and responsibility, and great excitement and joy, to be part of a community of men and women living out their faith in worship, outreach, welcome and care, as they have done on this site for thirteen centuries. Each generation has sought to proclaim afresh the good news of God's reconciling love shown in the face of Jesus Christ, and that desire remains as strong as ever today. Our great Cathedral was founded on benefaction. Woven inextricably into its history are the countless personal stories of people who cared about the wellbeing of the Cathedral and its community far into the future, and wanted to ensure that it would continue to be a place of reflection, welcome, care and inspiration for the generations to come.

Will you join them, by making a gift to Ely Cathedral in your Will?

The Legacy Brochure tells you more about how you can do this.

Thank you.

The Very Revd Mark Bonney, Dean

How your gift could help

Many people think that to leave a legacy you have to be wealthy. This is far from true. Smaller gifts are made more often than larger ones, and all are valued. A legacy gift is a simple and tax-effective way of supporting something you care about, after you have taken care of family and friends. We do recommend, as a first step, that you consult your own solicitor or financial adviser, as personal circumstances vary.

Gifts in a Will which are given to support the Cathedral's general purposes are especially welcome, as they enable us to be flexible and respond to needs as they arise. But you may have in mind a particular area of the Cathedral's life, such as:

  • Maintaining the beauty of the building
  • The Choir and our music tradition
  • Our Education programme and community work

£500 might purchase music scores or buy key materials for work with young people
£5,000 could help restore and conserve part of the Cathedral's historic fabric
£10,000 would help cover the annual cost of maintaining the magnificent Organ

Whatever the size of gift, it will be greatly appreciated and well used.

If you already have a Will

The Cathedral can be included in it by the simple addition of a Codicil. Suggested wording can be provided - contact the Director of Development - Hannah Wilcox - DDI: 01353 660321
