SEMINAR ON MODERN SLAVERY AND EXPLOITATION LOCALLY

Ely Cathedral, in partnership with the Church of England's anti-slavery organisation The Clewer Initiative (www.theclewerinitiative.org/) is hosting a discussion on the topic of Modern Slavery and Exploitative Work locally, via Zoom on Wednesday 17 June.

Lockdown has only made things worse for those trapped in exploitative patterns of work, because it makes those affected even more invisible.

So representatives from local groups are coming together to see whether, together, we can make a difference.

There will be reps from local churches in the Diocese, including Wisbech, Cambridge, Fordham, Bar Hill and Tydd St Giles; from the Diocesan Market Towns Initiative; from G's Fresh and the Fresca Group, local businesses dealing in local produce; from Link to Change (www.linktochange.org.uk/), tackling child exploitation; and from the Wisbech 50 Backpacks (50backpacksvision.uk/) a homelessness charity.

Our hope is that by pooling our knowledge and resource in this way we can find a way forward to tackle the evils of exploitation within our communities.

If you would like to know more about next steps for this work after we have met please contact gro/lardehtacyle//egag/j
