THE CHORISTER EXPERIENCE FOR FAMILIES - REGISTER NOW

Published: 20 Apr 2021

The Chorister Experience for Families at Ely Cathedral - Saturday 22 May 2021

The Chorister Experience is an event for boys in Years 2 and 3. The first Chorister Experience was held in January 2020. It gives boys a taste of life in Ely Cathedral Choir and culminates in the chance to join in with Evensong under the famous Octagon Tower. Along the way they'll have a chance to try out the Cathedral's amazing acoustics, meet the current choristers and discover the fascinating history of one of England's most famous ancient buildings.

The afternoon consists of singing games and workshops led by the Cathedral's professional music team (trained in Safeguarding and fully DBS cleared), as well as other activities, and ends with Evensong which starts at 4pm. Each boy will go home with a goodie bag and - we hope - the memory of a fantastic day of music-making.

Participants will be invited to attend in family bubbles, and all activities are fully compliant with Government and Church of England guidelines around singing and social distancing.

Choristership is a uniquely rewarding opportunity and the one of the best starts in life a child can have. The professional skills it teaches last a lifetime and equip children for many different careers: former England cricket captain Sir Alastair Cook, singer and actor Alexander Armstrong, and MP David Lammy all attribute their success to the training they received as choristers.

You can find out much more about Ely Cathedral Choir and what it's like to be a chorister here.

All participants must register in advance for the day. Please contact us on 01353 660336, 01353 660311 or music@elycathedral.org to find out more.
