'Creationtide'or the 'Season of Creation' is the period in the annual church calendar (from 1st September to 4th October) dedicated to God as Creator and Sustainer of all life. At Ely, we are entering into the spirit of the season through worship, prayer and action. The newly formed Cathedral Environment Group is promoting a series of events to which all are welcome. Canon Vicky Johnson, who is part of the Church of England's Environmental Working Group said 'Here in Ely, we are commending the Church of England's 'Daily Actions and Reflections' for Creationtide. These resources can be used by groups and individuals, encouraging everyone to reflect on how we can be good stewards of the environment.'

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has said that our care of the environment is central to our christian discipleship.

'Responding to climate change is an essential part of our responsibility to safeguard God's creation. Meanwhile, to love our neighbour - particularly, in this case, our neighbour whom we may never meet but who lives daily with the profound threat posed by this moral crisis - is at the core of what it is to follow Jesus Christ.'
