Ely Choristers will be holding their traditional Pancake Race following Evensong on Shrove Tuesday, 28 February, in the Cathedral. This is long term tradition at Ely Cathedral but this year will include a Bishop and a Pancake Party to raise awareness of food poverty.

Ely Cathedral have teamed up with the Church Urban Fund as part of their 'Big Pancake Party' to raise funds and awareness for those in this country who struggle to put food on the table; children going to school hungry and parents who are sacrificing their own needs so that their children can eat an evening meal.

The Church Urban Fund, supported by the Archbishop of Canterbury, is calling on churches, schools, families and individuals throughout England to stand up to food poverty - and have some fun in the process.

Following the race, pancakes will be available for everyone with a collection for the Church Urban Fund. It is hoped people will give generously. Just £3 can provide lunch for a child over the summer as free school meals disappear and £9 will provide an emergency food parcel for a family for one day. For further information visit

The Chorister's Pancake Race and Big Pancake Party takes place on Tuesday 28 February at 6.30pm. Entry is free and everyone is welcome. For catering purposes tickets can be obtained from Ely Cathedral Box Office - 01353 660349. Ely Cathedral Clergy and musicians are happy to accept sponsorship to race!
