Ely Cathedral

20 July 2021 2pm

Join in with this workshop led by Alex Buchanan and Nick Webb from the University of Liverpool to learn how to lay out the design of a medieval vault at Ely Cathedral following the approach used by medieval masons.

At this workshop you will learn some of the basic geometrical methods employed by medieval designers and find out about masons' drawing practices as identified by the Tracing the Past project:

The workshop requires no previous knowledge of medieval architecture or geometry, just willingness to try things out and have fun! You will end up with some designs that you can continue at your leisure if you don't finish within the session itself. The patterns we create will help you to identify similar design processes used in other medieval buildings.

Anyone who signs up for this workshop by the deadline of 6 July will be sent a workshop pack consisting of a printed template, compasses and ruler.

The workshop will take place for an hour from2 pm via Zoom. Free but advance booking is required through Eventbrite
