Alexandra Kingswell is a textile artist whose work could be described as a love affair with colour.

Following a degree in communications design and a career as a graphic designer, she turned her attention to fine art - and found a wonderful freedom to express her ideas through textile and colour. Her early work with mathematicians sparked a lasting fascination with the relationship between number, proportion, and beauty in the natural world - an influence that continues to shape her artistic approach. Because of her process, Alex says all of her work is greater than her imagination - and greater than the sum of its parts.

Her aim is to give viewers a joyful and arresting visual experience. To inspire deep contemplation. To lift spirits and make people smile. To foster hope and joy. (And maybe also to intrigue them a little!)

Her work has received international recognition, with three pieces purchased by the International Quilt Museum in Nebraska, USA, for their permanent Contemporary Textile Art Collection. She has presented solo exhibitions at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham and in several historic venues and cathedrals across England, including Coventry, Lichfield, and Leicester.

In my work, I’m constantly searching for that patch of luminosity, exploring ways to create or suggest light within each piece. I think it is an expression of the deep hope inside me.” — Alexandra Kingswell
