Saturday 9 March, 10am - 4pm at the Cathedral Centre
A stunning hand embroidery class from the Royal School of Needlework to celebrate our Bridal Gowns exhibition which opened on 14 February and highlights the history, artistry and allure of wedding dresses over the years.
During the class, RSN Tutor, Sarah Smith (pictured) will teach you all the steps to embroider this beautiful Shadow Work design evocative of bridal wear. You will learn how to create a translucent white organdie ‘window’ in white linen using reverse applique bordered with pin stitch. You will then create a golden rose motif within the window using gold metallic thread and the shadow work technique. Gilt spangles will add shimmer and sparkle to the design. Finally, you will create four delicate but simple shoulder designs in Whitework on the linen to frame the design and add interest to your embroidery.
Your class kit (included in the cost of the course) will include everything you require to complete the project. You will be able to borrow ring frames and embroidery scissors on the day. This is a white on white technique, so if you are accustomed to stitch with magnifiers and/or additional lighting, please bring your equipment to the class. Alternatively, if you would like to stitch the piece on dark fabric instead this can be arranged, but please let us know at the time of booking.
You will also be treated to a highlights tour of A Celebration of Bridal Gowns.
Tickets: £160 available from the RSN website
