Ely Choral Society and Ely Youth Choir are delighted that this year’s annual family Christmas concert will be held in Ely Cathedral.

Go past the stunning Christmas tree in the Octagon to find us in front of the High Altar of the Cathedral. Here the sound of the choirs and the organ will be truly wondrous, only right for performances of great Christmas music.

The first half will include two seasonal cantatas: Ave Rex by the Welsh composer William Mathias with its rousing carol Sir Christèmas; and movements from Mendelssohn’s unfinished oratorio Christus which tell the story of the Three Kings finding their way to the manger where the Christ child lay.

After the interval, there will be a mixture of traditional carols and some less well-known but delightful ones for the choirs and for the audience, as well as seasonal readings.
