Canon Jim Garrard RIP (1965-2025)
Canon Jim Garrard died unexpectedly on Monday 8 December. Since 2008, he had served faithfully as Canon Precentor at Ely Cathedral, guiding its music and liturgy with great skill and devotion. Jim was a deeply gifted priest whose thoughtful, gentle ministry touched the lives of many. His death leaves the Cathedral community and staff profoundly saddened by the loss of a dear friend, colleague, Chapter member, and a steadfast presence at the heart of Cathedral life.
Please do keep Ros, Richard, Sophia, members of Jim’s family and friends in your prayers at this time, If you wish to send cards or messages, please address them to the Chapter House at Ely Cathedral and they will be passed on to Jim’s family.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

A Requiem Eucharist will be held in the Cathedral on Friday 9 January 2026, at 11.30am.

Heavenly Father,
you have not made us for darkness and death,

and commend him into your safe keeping,
speak to us your words of eternal life.
Lift us from anxiety and grief
