60 BOY CHORISTERS AND 3 CATHEDRAL CHOIRS

'MIXING THEIR MUSIC' AT ELY CATHEDRAL

28 February 2014

History will be made on Saturday 15 March when choristers from three of East Anglia's most significant cathedrals come together to sing as one choir under the Octagon at Ely.

The 20 boys from Ely Cathedral Choir will be joined on stage by their fellow choristers from Bury St. Edmunds and Chelmsford Cathedrals to perform the much loved pop-style Cantata, "Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo" alongside other popular choral classics including Franck's Panis Angelicus and Faure's Pie Jesu.

Several years ago Ely Cathedral introduced the idea of several choirs coming together to 'Mix their Music' and this ever popular concert has now become a notable musical event in the Cathedral calendar.

Ely Cathedral's Director of Music, Paul Trepte is very excited at the prospect of having these three choirs performing together. "The life of a chorister is pretty unique and this is a great opportunity for the boys to come together as fellow musicians and companions. The programme is a delight for any audience, all the more so because it provides an opportunity to hear not just one group of choristers but 3!"

The choristers at Ely Cathedral have developed a worldwide reputation over the years. Having performed alongside many well known artists and musicians including Jose Carreras,  John Rutter, Aled Jones, The London Symphony Orchestra, The Brandenburg Consort and Hayley Westenra, they recently performed at the of BBC's The Choir: Sing While You Work with Gareth Malone.

Tickets £15, £7.50 (concessions) are available from Ely Cathedral Box Office (01353) 660349 or online at tickets.elycathedral.org
