We want Ely Cathedral to make a difference: in people's lives, in the life of our community, and the wellbeing of our region. But how do we know we are doing this? And how do we demonstrate it to others? Last year, through support from Ely Cathedral Trust, Chapter commissioned an important piece of research - an Economic and Social Impact Study - from BOP Consulting, a specialist consultancy in the cultural and heritage sector.
This research reveals Ely Cathedral's substantial economic and social impact for the first time.

The aims of the research were to examine how Ely Cathedral creates economic value and generates social impact in the City of Ely and the wider region. The data and insights gathered were also designed as evidence to feed into and underpin the Cathedral's future planning, for example in areas such as development strategy, capital projects, or investment into socially beneficial work. The study drew upon surveys, personal interviews, and focus groups. We are enormously grateful to all those who gave their time to take part.

The full report was considered by Chapter on 22 June 2015. The picture was overall very encouraging, with many areas upon which we can build and grow.

We present here a summary of the key findings.
