The Order of St Etheldreda is a membership organisation for those who wish to share in the great task of cherishing Ely Cathedral and provide the regular financial support required for its buildings and its work.
On joining, members choose to support
Members of the Order receive invitations to special events which relate to the history, the music and the work of the Cathedral. These events usually take place in the Cathedral or in one of the magnificent medieval buildings that surround it. Members also receive invitations for special seats at some of the more popular events in the Cathedral calendar.
The Order was formed at the time of 'The Great Restoration' which commenced in 1986 when the roofs and the stonework were found to be in urgent need of restoration. The magnificent generosity of members together with funds from English Heritage were the principal contributors to a massive £12 million restoration programme.
Since that date members have contributed handsomely to a music appeal and within this a single gift has restored the Choir School to make it a very pleasant and efficient work-space.
The Cathedral needs the ongoing support of members of the Order and we hope this brief introduction commends itself to you. For further information please contact:
