The Order of St. Etheldreda

How To Help

Saint Etheldreda

The Order of St Etheldreda is the fundraising arm of Ely Cathedral Trust. It is named after the founder of the monastery that occupied the site of Ely Cathedral c673AD.

Under the patronage of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Order was established in 1986, when £12 million was raised for urgent restoration work. However the latest Quinquennial report identifies over £5 million of work still to be completed. Our aim is to raise enough money to preserve this national treasure whilst creating an environment in which the tradition of choral music will flourish and grow.

You can become a Member of The Order of St Etheldreda for as little as £250 a year (approx. £20 pcm). Larger monthly donations, as well as regular annual payments and single lifetime gifts and legacies, are gratefully received. As a Member, you will receive invitations to concerts, exhibitions, lectures, dinners and social evenings, in addition to priority seating at popular Cathedral events.

Without the active support of The Order Members, many of our renovation projects and musical aspirations will be delayed, if not abandoned to the long term detriment of the Cathedral.

Some of the projects you can support:

  • Sponsor a Chorister - £8,900 p.a.
  • Professional recording of the Choir - £10,000
  • Restoration of Purbeck marble columns - £5,000
  • Repair of windows in North Nave Aisle - £7,000
  • Consolidation of South Choir Aisle Ceiling - £20,000
  • Repair of statues and monuments from £250
  • Tuning and upkeep of Cathedral Organ - £4,000 p.a.
  • Specialist choral training - £500 p.a.

For a donation of £250 per annum become a Member of The Order of St Etheldreda
£500 per annum - Officer of The Order of St Etheldreda
£1,000 per annum - Fellow of The Order of St Etheldreda
£5,000 per annum - Benefactor of The Order of St Etheldreda
£10,000 per annum - Major Benefactor of The Order of St Etheldreda
£50,000 10yr membership (single gift) - Patron Benefactor of The Order of St Etheldreda
£100,000 Life membership (single gift) - Commander of The Order of St Etheldreda

Ely Cathedral is the only UK building to be listed as one of the Seven Medieval Wonders of the World. Please help us to support this building and to ensure the preservation of its choral, tradition for future generations, so they too may have the opportunity to worship, admire and enjoy this glorious heritage.
