OPEN UNIVERSITY GRADUATION CEREMONIES

03 June 2017 2:30pm - 8:30pm

The annual Open University Graduation Ceremonies take place today at 2.30pm and 6:30pm.

PLEASE NOTE: The Cathedral will be closed to the general public from Midday.

Each year, Ely Cathedral hosts the graduation ceremonies for The Open University in the East of England, and each year bears witness to the extraordinary achievements of the OU students. For these degrees are like no other. Every student graduating will have sacrificed leisure time, sleep and family time to be standing, robed, in the Cathedral Nave on this June afternoon. And for most watching, it will stir memories of what they have done in support of this achievement.

The unique 'supported open learning' model offered by The Open University allows students to fit studies around their other commitments. The OU supports them through a tutor network of thousands of Associate Lecturers, online forums, study facilities and through contact with their peers via tutorials, online conferencing, social networks, study groups and events. The success of this model is borne out by the sheer numbers of participating students, more than 170,000.
