ISLE OF ELY ARTS FESTIVAL CONCERT - GUY JOHNSTON AND MELVYN TAN

Cellist Guy Johnston and pianist Melvyn Tan will perform a diverse programme of cello and piano works including Schubert's famous Arpeggione Sonata, along with works by Mendelssohn, Chopin and Turnage.

Guy Johnston is one of the most exciting and versatile British cellists of his generation. A former chorister of King's College, Cambridge, Guy went on to become BBCs Young Musician of the Year followed by a Classical Brit award. He has played with some of the very best orchestras in the world and is Professor of Cello at The Royal Academy of Music.

Melvyn Tan is a Singapore-born British classical pianist, noted for his study of historical performance practice.Tan has largely performed as concerto soloist with such prestigious ensembles as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin's in the Fields, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony and on tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Ely Cathedral is delighted to host this concert on behalf of The Isle of Ely Arts Festival.
