ADULT LEARNING

Adult Learning is overseen by Canon Jessica Martin and comprises a rolling programme of lectures, discussion groups and courses, designed to help people engage with, grow in, and deepen their faith. This year the programme focuses on how we can experience God through the Arts. Initially the emphasis will be on poetry, through the Advent Poetry Course, moving on to music and architecture in the New Year.

The Poet's Vision of God: Advent Course exploring Poetry and Faith

Come to this course led by Jessica Martin, which takes us on a journey of faith from 'Waiting' (Week 1), through 'Wa/ondering' and 'Seeking', on weeks 2 and 3, culminating in 'Finding' (week 4). We explore our own journeys of faith through the eyes of different poets: the overarching poem for all four weeks is Henry Vaughan's 'The Search', but we'll also look poems by Denise Levertov, George Herbert, an anonymous medieval writer and William Blake. The poems are short! Alongside the poems we'll play with the scriptures the poets have drawn upon , and see how their vision aligns with our own faith journeys. All welcome - no special expertise needed! - just bring yourself, your mind, your heart and your feelings!

Thursdays in Advent beginning Thursday 30 November, 7pm in Powchers Hall Education Rooms.

Please contact Jessica Martin on gro/lardehtacyle//nitram/j to give us some idea of numbers, as there has been quite a bit of interest expressed.
